Sitting pretty: outdoor fabric to revitalise your garden

Summer has arrived! The garden looks fresh and colourful and perhaps you had a barbecue over the Bank Holiday weekend. But, do your garden cushions still look bright and jolly, or sun-bleached and faded? Are the seat pads sad, split or mouldy at the edges? Is the fabric looking vintage but not in a good way? Maybe you don’t have any cushions and you’re still sweating it out on plastic chairs or branding the backs of your legs on a metal bench!

Why not give your garden and conservatory chairs some love? It’s incredible how a simple change, with some new outdoor fabric can revitalise furniture and add an extra shot of colour to your garden.

You can give cushions, pads and covers a brilliant makeover for less money and using better quality outdoor fabric than shop bought equivalents. Plus, you get to enjoy the smug factor of making them yourself.

For picnics, open air events, or places where seating is generally uncomfortable, you could make a portable cushion. This is a really simple idea which makes a very useful gift. Using just two rectangles of foam, covered in your choice of fabric and stitched through the gap, the cushions fold up. Add carrying handles of cord and and secure with Velcro.

In stock we have everything you need to get started.  Just bring the inspiration!

Fab outdoor fabric

You will see cheap garden cushions in the shops which won’t last more than a couple of years, because of the poor quality of the fabric. Our Madrid outdoor fabric takes some beating – literally. Good and strong, it will hold its colour and take the usual bashing a garden cushion is expected to, especially if children are involved. It is also water repellent and fire retardant.

Madrid outdoor fabric is available in 8 colours: sultry cerise, Cornish navy, subtle sand, sunny yellow, hot red, turquoise, traditional bottle or lush lime green and trendy black. Fabric width is 150 cms or 59”, priced at £11.98 per metre.

Don’t feel you need to stop at cushions and seat pads. Why not re-cover an awning, a windbreak or a parasol? Our Awning Canvas outdoor fabric is a high quality shower-proof acrylic, just right for the job. It also makes a good garden cushion fabric. The width is 120 cms and is priced at £22.75 per metre.

We are also able to obtain another outdoor fabric from Spain which is called AGORA.  It usually takes about two weeks to receive it, but sometimes less.  It is a 100% solution dyed acrylic (which means that the colour will not bleed) and is perfect for outdoor seating.  We have many sample folders of plains, stripes and checks, so do ring us and we can send you anything of interest.  It retails from £25.95 per metre. This swing seat is shown before re-covering and then afterwarding, using Agora fabric.

Cool and classy conservatory fabric

Conservatory furniture is even more likely to look jaded as it’s in service all year round. We have a lovely range of Lydeard linen fabric in ten colours, to add Shaker-style simplicity to any type of conservatory furniture. Woven and processed in Britain, this fabric is made of 40% linen and 60% cotton and is machine washable. The width is 142 cms and it is priced at £18.75 per metre.

Choose from modern neutrals of Beige, White, Silver or Charcoal. or nautical tones of Oxford Blue or Duck Egg. We have warm colours of Auburn, Damson or Peony and a lovely Sage green.

Fantastic foam

It’s an obvious point but a cushion is only as good as its filling and for the bit you sit on, foam is by far the most practical material. It holds its shape, wears well and can be sponged clean and dried easily.

We sell foam in three different depths: 1”, 2” and 3” in two sizes: 18” square and 22”x20”. If you want a bigger piece of foam, for a bench, we can cut it to order, so just give us a call.
